Pushpanjali
Every collection I create begins with a memory. For me, design is deeply personal. It’s
always been a way to bring my childhood to life, to translate the stories, textures, and
colours that shaped me into something I can share with the world. Growing up between
Gujarat and the South, surrounded by family, friends, and endless travel, I was always
drawn to colour, whether it was the vivid rangolis at our doorstep, the flowers in bloom,
or the fabrics my mother and grandmother so dearly wore. Those impressions never left
me. They’ve become the soul of Verandah, and in every collection, I find myself
returning to them.
Pushpanjali is perhaps the most personal collection I have ever created. It takes its
name from my grandparents’ home—Pushpanjali, 125/126 Raj Mahal Villa Extension, a
beautiful old corner bungalow in Sadashiv Nagar, Bangalore. It was more than just a
house; it was a world of wonder for my sister Gayatri and me. Every summer, we would
spend long, sun-drenched days there, surrounded by the fragrance of flowers, the warm
conversations with family, and the quiet hum of the garden that seemed to bloom
endlessly.
My grandmother’s rose garden was the pride of the neighbourhood. She tended to
every plant with such love and grace. Her sense of beauty and ease continues to inspire
me to this day. The memories of that house, its garden, the magnolia tree by the gate,
the rangoli patterns at the doorstep, and the flora of the Nilgiris we often travelled to
have all found their way into this collection. The motifs are drawn from those memories,
and the palette bursts with the colours I grew up loving: vivid reds, lush greens, serene
blues, and joyful pinks. As always with Verandah, colour is at the center, but here, it
feels especially tender, like a conversation between my past and present.
This collection is my love letter to the home that shaped me. To the garden, the warmth,
and the many summers that taught me to see beauty in the everyday. Every piece
carries a fragment of that world, and through it, I hope to share the spirit, the colour, and
the joy that continues to define Verandah.
